Hwajin Farewell

The night after we said farewell to our friends, we went out to dinner with some of the teachers from Andrew's school to say more goodbyes. They asked what we wanted for a last meal, and without hesitation, we told them we wanted duck. Myungkyo, Andrew's co-teacher did some research into the duck restaurants around Ulsan, and finally decided on Wuntergarden, a duck bulgogi place.

Duck Bulgogi

Duck Bulgogi is duck meat, onions, carrots, mushrooms, cabbage and peppers sauteed in a spicy sauce. The duck is super fatty, so it gets pretty greasy but it's still pretty delicious.

Like most dishes that are sauteed at the table, once you finish most of the meal, you can have rice fried in the remaining sauce (and grease). Tasty stuff!

Andrew's co-workers were really sweet and got him a farewell present. It was a really nice organic loose leaf tea set with a mug to brew it in. Now, he uses it everyday at school.

Shin was our driver for the night, but she had been drinking at dinner, so we weren't sure how we were going to get home. While we were outside the restaurant figuring out who was driving who, a strange man walked up to Shin and asked for her keys. She handed them over and motioned for us to follow him to her car. Apparently, he worked for the restaurant and part of his job was to drive patrons home that consumed too much. So weird and amazing!

Those of us that lived in the same area headed back to our neighborhood to continue the party at a bar owned by one of Shin's friends. Playing a rousing game of 'toss the bar snack at the glasses to see who has to drink.' It's a really awesome game.

Saying, "goodbye."
