Tokyo, Japan! - Tsukiji Fish Market

After spending the day in the hot sun at Disneyland, then stuffing ourselves with delicious food at Omae, we were in bed fairly early. We used that as the perfect opportunity to be at the Tsukiji Fish Market early the next morning. So early, in fact, we were up and out before the subways started running and before many of the fish dealers had even begun to set up.

To quote Keifer Sutherland's hit television drama, "The following takes place between the hours of 4:00AM and 8:00AM [on the day of the California presidential primary]."

Just starting to set things up

One of the fishermen looked just like Judy

*No flash photography is allowed inside the market and it is pretty scary-busy in there with people and carts moving in all directions, so we didn't get too many photos.*
Heading into the market

Mmmm, tuna!

busy busy busy

Huge! (and delicious...)

The most beautiful thing a bandsaw has ever cut

Thousands of dollars in tuna

Morning has come!

After walking through the market a while, we headed back out into the streets surrounding the market to find a good looking place for a sushi breakfast.

Sweet looking old building

This store was so weird

Yes, this is a shrink wrapped stuffed panda...

Early morning bustle

Breakfast!!!
A tuna artist

Being the tuna-fiend he is, Andrew went with a tuna special.
The fatty tuna is the most magical thing you'll ever put in your mouth

Judy went with a seared and raw sampler.
From left - horse, salmon, some sort of white fish, and fatty tuna

About to chow down on Black Stallion!

cute lil tuna rolls

(It was so hot outside that whenever we would leave an air conditioned place the camera would fog up for a while, that's why these next few photos look like this)

Every garage door on this block had a mural on it

Tuna mosaic!

Carts like these were zooming around all over the place

Sweet Gap t-shirt, dude!

These carts were so weird

The neighborhood was littered with these awesome, condemned buildings with oxidized copper siding.
A breading ground for tetanus

Vending machine madness

So frightening.
He looks like a Japanese Mr. Burns!!!

Not sure what a coffee head shop might be

Ahhh! European nerd alert!!!
