Road Trip! - Jinju

Paying the toll to exit the freeway and head into Jinju.

An area of the Jinju water front is lined with love motels, so we decided to stay there. The guide book mentioned a few, but they didn't really sound too good from the description or look too great when we drove past. After cruising the strip a few times, we settled on the Dream Motel. It had a great name, and the brightest, most Vegas-like lights!

This was at the entrance to the parking lot

This was the door across from ours.
Sadly, our door was plain.

This beautiful mural (copied from the cover of a sci-fi romance novel) was on the wall between our room and the room next door.

After we checked in, we dropped off our stuff and headed out in search of dinner. We didn't end up finding much in the way of food, but we did manage to do some shopping! Really, no matter the situation, we can do a little shopping...

Night views of the main bridge in Jinju

----------

The next morning, our only plans in Jinju were to grab some breakfast then tour the Jinju Fortress.

Morning views of the same bridge

We ate breakfast at the restaurant with the red sign. In Korean, it says, "Best Restaurant." That was a lie.

We had two orders of Kimchi Jjigae, a standard Korean dish served morning, noon and night, but it was mediocre at best. That is usually the one dish you can rely on, so when it lets you down, you know you're not in a good restaurant. Luckily, it was right across the street from the entrance to the fortress, so we were able to leave it behind us quickly.

The entrance to the fortress It was not at all like we expected.
More like a park or garden than a fortress, really...

Early morning gardening

It was very pretty though

Views of another bridge from over the fortress walls

Self-timer!

This woman was so weird. She was yelling, clapping, singing, stretching, chanting, slapping the stones, you name it. Old Korean women often seemed possessed!

So, the Gift Shop Toilet is 240M to your left!

Where the hell was the owner of this chair?!? There was no one in sight, NO ONE. Is it not safe to assume that if you are in a motorized wheelchair, you aren't really free to get up and wander as you please? We were baffled.

These are the standard outdoor stairs in Korea.

Dear Korea,

It doesn't really bode well for the strength of your fortresses when you have to employ ADT to protect them. If there is one structure that shouldn't need added security, it's probably a fortress...

Sitting on the fortress wall overlooking the city

The self-timer again...

Some graves? Maybe?

Judy with the fortress guard

Andrew with the guard

Another insane old Korean woman...

This bell's name was really funny when translated into English, but we can't remember what it was...

Please worship, reverently!

Awww, cute little hat/communal drinking cup

A local gang!

Probably discussing ways they could eat and or sell that shrub...

Leaving the fortress

That sweet ride again!

From here, we got back into the car, set the GPS for Gwangju and hit the road...
