Miranda Visits! - 강남

Japanese soju ladies?

강남 쭈꾸미
Gangnam Jukumi

To continue Miranda's culinary journey through Korea, we brought her to a branch of a restaurant that we visited weekly while living in Ulsan to show her the spiciest dish under the Korean sun, Jukumi. Jukumi is baby octopus cooked in a fiery pepper sauce. This branch isn't as good as the ones in Ulsan, but since it was such a staple of our diets, we had to share it with her.

Trying the seaweed soup for the umpteenth time. Although she never liked it, she tried it at every restaurant we dragged her to. She made us proud!

Mmm, hurts so good!

Post-dinner beverages at Sky Bar

Sky Bar turned out to be more of a 'comfort girl' bar than a rooftop bar, so we got out of there after 1 over priced, poor tasting martini. From there, we went to Sideways Wine, an awesome little place we just wandered into.

We were relaxing in the section of the restaurant full of large chaise lounges and coffee tables and contently enjoying our wine when we started to get occasional whiffs of smelly feet. Naturally, we all thought it was our own feet first and put our shoes back on, but the feety waves continued. The girls then accused each other of being the culprit, which made us all become a little more self-conscious. Finally we figured out that the smell wasn't anyone in our party, but in fact was actually the gorgonzola pizza on the menu that made us all question the stench of our feet. The next time the waiter walked by, we ordered it, of course. And it was delicious!

Self-timer propped up on a wine glass

These girls were celebrating the middle one's birthday with wine a cake and a box of Krispy Kremes. You wouldn't believe the number of cellphone pictures they took of themselves. They were pretty cute!

Our goal in the after-dinner drinks had been to stay out late enough to avoid the packed subway, but unfortunately, we weren't successful.

As soon as the train cleared out a little and we
were able to breath, Miranda made a friend.

As a parting gift, he gave her this balloon umbrella...

...which she used to make another, much older friend.

He didn't speak much English, but he repeatedly used the balloons to make sexual references, so the two quickly became good friends!
