Cookin' Nanta! is Korea's most popular and longest running live production. It's a non-verbal, musical-comedy set in the kitchen of a fancy restaurant before an important wedding. The story is told by 3 chefs through their body language and the beats they make while prepping and cooking for the wedding feast. All we really knew about it before going was that it's been described as, "the fusion of Stomp and the Blue Man Group."
On Andrew's birthday, we discussed the show with Jin & Heeji, who were also curious of it. Jin thought that he (being Korean, and able to speak Korean) could get us discounted tickets. That sounded great to us, so we decided to go with them and leave the ticket purchasing up to Jin.
A few days later, we got a message from Jin saying that he found 'couples' tickets offered at a discounted rate. Great! But the message went on to say that we needed to bring with us 'proof that we were a couple.' What? He said it could be couple rings, a couple picture, or anything similar.
When showtime came around, we still thought it was strange and unnecessary that we needed proof of our relationship in order to pick up the tickets, but luckily we brought a photo to Korea with us from Valentine's 2009, so we took the photo with us as our proof. It was a good thing we did, because they checked! Jin and Heeji used their couple rings to prove their status, and we used this:
The people at the Lynnwood Walmart Picture Me! Portrait Studio do some quality work!
During the show, they called for audience participation, and Judy was chosen! She, working with another member of the audience, had to represent our half of the crowd in a dumpling making competition. They put her skill to the test, and our side won!
