One of our favorite things to do when traveling is spend a few hours wandering up and down each isle (each isle with food, that is) of a supermarket. When we lived in Spain, we began a long-term love affair with Carrefour, a French hypermarket chain (hypermarket = sells everything under the sun). While we were out the night before, we saw that there was one in the mall, but Dave & Teresa informed us that it was a small, crappy one. Sad. A good Carrefour is unbeatable. This didn't make us too upset, though, because from the bus, on the way into town, we noticed that there was also a giant Tesco in the area. Tesco, the British equivalent of Carrefour, while slightly less exciting, still meant the promise of real cheese and weird snacks!
The adds for the Asian Pringles knock-off, Mr. Potato were everywhere. Giant chip tubes were all over the city. It's difficult to see in this photo, but the columns supporting the pedestrian walkways had been wrapped so that they were transformed into huge Mr. Potato cans!
Before discovering these, Andrew had only seen mugs this amazing in his dreams. Regretfully, we did not buy them and we're not sipping tea (or something sassier) from them right this minute. ☹
Restrooms, changing station and prayer room right this way! This was a Muslim thing that surprised us. All the big supermarkets and malls had male and female prayer rooms near the bathrooms. Actually, the reason we noticed this one was because it was prayer time when we were using the restroom and the pile of shoes outside of the rooms caught our attention.
Before hitting the grocery section, Teresa treated us to a little snack of her favorite Malay food, Roti Canai.
In Korea, they sell Kimball brand chili sauce, which we thought was awesome. In Malaysia, we discovered that the Kimball company makes soooo much more, like tradisional and cendawan pasta sauce!
Surprise, surprise, the popcorn was terrible!
This was actually pretty awesome. Outside of the Fireworks Playland children's area, there was this booth where parents could rent motorized, Power Wheel type vehicles for their children to play with. The awesome part was that the cars were actually nothing more than giant R/C cars and the parents had the remote controls! Fun for everyone!
