Everyone Should Visit Bali - Part 5 - Ubud

Ubud (pronounced eww-bood by the locals) is a city located in the central foothills of the island, surrounded by rice paddies and jungle. It is one of the major arts and cultural centers in Bali and is home to many temples, palaces, museums and galleries. Our reason for visiting was to check out the Sacred Monkey Forest & Sanctuary and taste the suckling pig the region is known for.

Even the sewers are pretty in Bali.

An intimate embrace

And the intimate grooming turned into a fight...

This one is so adorable!

(Minus the scary blue and pink balls!)

The Holy Spring

Not sure exactly why this frog-like creature is covering
his eyes and holding his dong, and why they would choose
to place this statue at the Holy Spring...

Carving a scene in the stone on the wall surrounding
the Holy Spring Bathing Temple.

We found a creek-side path that lead nowhere.

"Hmmm, what do I do with that?"

Bathtime!

Nothing is more adorable than a baby monkey!

The front door to the Royal Palace

Most statues and idols in Bali were dressed in sarongs like this.

To kill some time, and try to beat the heat a little, we headed to the Hotel Tjampuhan for a spa treatment. We read in the Lonely Planet that the hotel, situated on the side of a mountain in a lush valley was a sight in itself, but we had no idea what we were in store for in the spa!

The Lonely Planet didn't lie. The hotel was beautiful. It was a scattering of mountainside fountains, paths, pools, villas and rooms, all facing the brook flowing through the valley and the adjacent jungle covered mountain.

After a long and winding walk down the mountain and through the hotel grounds, we finally found the spa at the bottom, near the base of the valley. The spa offered all the standard massage options and treatments. We decided to do a 2 hour massage and body scrub session, that was only $35 a piece!

Next, we were led into a room with a bathtub and two massage tables. The side of the room facing the valley was completely open, filling the room with sunshine and the sounds of the water rushing below. The woman that escorted us handed us to pairs of accord fabric panties and told us to change. The panties were essentially shower caps with leg holes in them, they were amazing! After we suited up, we laid down and the massaging and scrubbing began...

They began on our backs, massaging the scrub into every inch of flesh they could find. It was an herbal body scrub, that really seemed more like a marinade. And, once they finished the backside of our body, we had to lay there and let it dry before we could roll over, which furthered the feelings of marinating.

Although it wasn't a 'happy ending' type of massage, it was still very intimate, to say the least. Many times our masseuse's and masseur's hands swept below the panties and they spent extended periods of time massaging and scrubbing areas they shouldn't. Judy's masseuse paid extra attention to her chest and Andrew's masseur got really busy on his inner thighs! It was pretty weird and uncomfortable.

Once both sides of our bodies were massaged and scrub, and after the scrub had dried sufficiently, we were ushered into a warm bathtub. This was no special bathtub either. We were covered in an herbal, brown sludge and crammed into a standard, one person tub like bobsledders. Andrew's masseur came behind him, and started rinsing the herbs away, so he turned it into a train and started rinsing Judy. After we were cleaned of the scrub, we still weren't finished. The final step to the session was lotion. We had to stand, legs spread, in our wet panties while they applied lotion to our bodies. They again focused on those same areas. It was so weird, but so great!

There were paths like this winding all over the mountainside.
