Costco in Korea!!!

After 3 months of Korean food, we were ready for a little taste of home.
Where better to find that than Costco?!?

--------------------

There are two Costcos within an hour of Ulsan, one in
Daegu and one in Busan. We decided to take the train
and hit up the Costco in Busan.

Ulsan Train Station getting ready for Christmas

Trinh, Angela and Eugene on the train

Off the train and headed into the subway.
Only 4 subway stops from Costco. So close we could taste it.

A sweet looking old butcher shop

Costco spotted!!!

We've arrived!

Trinh found us the only available locker, but didn't notice the
"Out Of Order" sign until after we had all of our stuff loaded into it.

Aww, don't be sad Trinh.

Luckily, a fellow shopper came to our rescue.
He fixed the lock for us and threw away the sign.

Where's Waldo?

The food court was the main reason for the visit

We tried the Bulgogi Bake, and it tasted
like a Philly Cheesesteak Bake.

It was awesome!

We also tried the Clam Chowder.
It was not awesome.

Mmmmm, it's lunchtime!
They didn't have the Polish Sausage option,
but
the hot dogs tasted exactly the same.
They even had the onion crank!

The 4LB bag of Kirkland Signature pistachios: 34,990 Won!
(a little over $30)

No Slimfast shakes, but they carry FatDown F...

Not sure who is sexier in this photo

Corn King!

Heinz Baked Beans on toast samples!

Korean Costco has wine samples too!

The rolls weren't the same.

They didn't have the turkey and cranberry
creamcheese ones. One was salmon and American
cheese and the other was unidentifiable.

Andrew was sad...

Soju at Costco!

On the left you'll find US sizes XXS-L and on the right, Asian sizes S,M,L,XL!

String Cheese, Bacon and a Baby Loaf of Pepper Jack
Life is good

Merry Christmas!!!

Happy Holidays from

our Costco to yours!

The pizza tasted exactly the same too!

Party at the Ilsan Pine Forest

The mountain and cliffs alongside Ilsan Beach are home to
the Ilsan Pine Forest and Dae-Wang Am, the tomb of

the wife of King Munmu, the 30th king of the Silla Dynasty (AD 668).

One Sunday, we met Angela at the beach and
headed up the long flight of stairs to check it out.

Angela and Judy posing in front of the massive stairs we had to climb

The view of Ilsan Beach from the top

This elaborate walkway covered most of the mountain side

Too bad the autofocus chose that tree instead of Judy.

It is a nice looking tree though...

Scary

Oh, so this is where we take pictures...

That bridge connects the mainland to Dae-Wang Am, the rock/tomb of the King's wife.

-------------------

"King Munmu used to express his desire to become a dragon after his death that would protect his kingdom from enemies. When the King died he was buried under a great rock in the East Sea in accordance with his will and sublimated into the guardian dragon of the kingdom. People, therefore, call the rock 'Dae-wang Am', which means 'The Rock of the Great King' and it is located Yongbuk-myun, Kyongju.

Meanwhile, the spirit of the Queen also became a guardian dragon of the kingdom after she died since she could not forget her husband's noble will. Later the dragon flew to Ulsan and submerged herself under this rock right here to protect the East Sea. People also began to call this rock 'Dae-wang Am' and it is told that seaweed does not grow around this rock because of the dragon."

Could be a house, could be a toilet...
You can never be sure in South Korea

bench supported by Asian kitties

Can you spot the matching couple?

There they are!
