To give the students (and the teachers) a bit of a studying break, there was a "Special Activities" class most afternoons. We were randomly assigned our special activity, and Andrew ended up with 'Sports.' The Korean teachers were in charge of the special activities, so it was up to them to tell Andrew what 'sport' he'd be doing each day. Some days we did sports, and some days we did some pretty strange things. The next few posts will all be about the various activities Andrew had to participate in during camp. The first sport activity we had was Chicken Fighting. This one was pretty dangerous, but pretty weird and awesome.
For some reason, before almost any activity, Korean teachers like to have the students line up and number off. Sure, that is a fine thing to do, but Korean teachers will make them recount and recount until they feel it went smoothly enough, which can often take upwards of 5-7 minutes. To chicken fight Korean style, you hold one foot and hop on the other while using your knee to attack your opponent.
Luckily, only a few students were injured, and they were able to walk it off before the end of the period.
